Altar Servers

At Our Lady of the Assumption we offer our parish youth Boys and Girls the opportunity to be an Altar Server. Some of the requirements are they be at least 8 years or older, regularly attend mass and have completed the sacraments of Baptism, Reconciliation, and Holy Eucharist.

An Altar Server is a lay assistant to a member of the clergy, either priest or deacon during Mass. An Altar Server attends to supporting tasks at the altar such as fetching and carrying, lighting candles, ringing the altar bell, helping bring up the gifts, and bringing up or holding the liturgical books. Also Altar Servers process with the priest at the beginning and end of mass leading with the crucifix, Bible, among other things.
